10 Things To Get Rid Of If You Want To Be Happy

What would you throw away right now if you were given a magical trashcan where you could get ride of all the stuff that’s causing you stress?During times of stress and heaviness, what we need is to let go of the things that are causing the overwhelming feeling of, “it’s too much.”

It’s not about taking on more — it’s about being willing to do less.

So if you could toss out 10 things in your life right now, what would they be?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and have been for a long time, here are 10 ways to change your thinking to lighten the stressful load you’ve been carrying and finally give yourself a break:

1. Get rid of the need to please.

2. Stop feeling like you need to explain yourself.

3. Don’t feel the need to reply immediately to everything (hello, to emails taking over your life!).

4. Let yourself be unavailable when you need to be. It’s OK to say “no” to that event or party.

5. Cast away the thought that you need X to be successful. Why is it we often feel that ONE thing has the power to make or break us? It’s simply not true. There’s always another opportunity.

6. Get rid of the desire to show yourself off. You are enough as you are. There are people that will see you for who you are without having to prove anything.

7. Stop trying to be accepted by everyone. Not everyone is going to accept you and that’s OK. Our job is to accept that.

8. Remember that you don’t need to know every detail. There’s a mystery to the way life works. You might as well embrace it.

9. Toss out the need to be “good” or “perfect.” It’s OK to mess up. It’s OK for someone to see you become a little crazy. It happens to all of us.

10. Stop holding onto the stress of feeling you are responsible to hold up everyone around you. Trust that there is a greater force helping them. Helping and supporting others is wonderful. But the moment it causes stress is a signal to let go. Trust that they will be supported just as you are supported by a greater life-force.

Tossing out the heaviness and the stress that weighs us down is the easiest way to feel light and free again. In lightness and freedom comes a sense of openness, expansiveness, and newfound energy.

And it is with this awakened energy that we can actually do better work and end up helping more people.

When we feel good, we can create a greater impact. So take some time today and make a list of five to 10 things that YOU want to let go of.

Pineapple-Watermelon Smoothie

Summertime means long days in the sun, sweat trickling down your spine as you heat up, and cold drinks and dips in the water to cool you back down. It also means tons of fresh, juicy produce to replenish and rehydrate you after those long, not-so-lazy days of summer. And nothing says summer like a big juicy watermelon.

Watermelon, pineapple, and coconut water are all superior hydrators, and the coconut water contains electrolytes to rebalance your system. Add these three together and you have the perfect drink for all your summer needs!

A Pineapple-Watermelon Smoothie That’s Perfect For Summer

Serves 2

Ingredients

  • 1 cup watermelon
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1/2 to 1 cup coconut water (as needed to thin out)

Directions

Add all ingredients to your high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Sip, smile, and repeat all summer long.

5 Feng Shui Tips To Clear Negative Energy In Your Home

Words become full expressions of energy. Every utterance we make carries its own power and intention, curating the backdrop of our lives.

So, if your home feels sticky or heavy, start a conversation about words.

You want to know:

  • Is there open communication flow?
  • Are conversations usually enjoyable? Or are arguments and criticism common?
  • What entertainment is allowed? Any boundaries around media?
  • Where is a favorite spot in the home and why?

Dr. Maya Angelou believed words are things and that someday we will be able to measure their power. “They get on the walls. They get in your wallpaper. They get in your rugs and your upholstery and your clothes. And finally, they are into you.”

If we’re guilty of some negative talk (and who isn’t?), how do we handle the frequencies it creates? After all, you can’t see words to clean them up; still, their residue is just as real.

With a few basic space-clearing techniques, we encourage buoyant energy to gather in our homes, enhancing its energetic orderliness while sustaining our own happiness.

1. Open windows.

Think about how amazing it feels when out in nature. The air is alive and electric with potent life force, often filling us with fresh hope. When we open windows, we invite this same wild grace into our space. The outside air beckons our home to enjoy a deep cleansing breath, exhaling negativity out. Invite the ripples of a breeze into your surroundings daily, if even for only a few minutes.

2. Burn incense.

As mindful as we strive to be in conversation, we sometimes say too much. And as carefully as we filter what seeps in through media, it is an easy slip. So, keep a stash of incense sticks handy.

Incense has a magical quality that shifts energy immediately. Burn incense after a stormy argument or any lingering unpleasantness — it restores balances in our surroundings. Some practitioners love white sage; others love sandalwood. Experiment, and use what your nose LOVES. Our intention while clearing the air carries its own irrefutable power.

3. Sweep.

Vacuuming works well when keeping an area pristine of dust or dirt — both which carry low-wattage energy. However, it is the symbolic gesture of sweeping with a broom that creates a palpable energetic shift. Vacuum as a maintenance ritual. But when energy feels static, sweep. And don’t worry if an area is carpeted — the bristles don’t even need to touch the ground. Sweep toward a door or an open window. This ritual becomes symbolic of sweeping out the old to make room for refreshments.

4. Take a sea salt bath.

When left unattended, toxic words eventually get into us. They pile up and we feel the effects weeks later in unexpected outbursts or clinging bad moods. Slip into a salt bath for 20 minutes — this renews our personal energetic fields immediately. Need an easy recipe? Add 2 — 4 cups of sea salt with a few drops of a favorite essential oil (or a couple orange peel rinds) to a full bath, and let yourself soak.

5. Use beautiful words.

Habits don’t change overnight, so try this instead: make it a goal to use the word JOY or LOVE 50 times a day. When we pirouette through our home with gorgeous words, the world turns in our favor. Words create a gravitational force, attracting their likeness into our lives.

Words absolutely shape our tender trajectories, each making its own energetic deposit in our surroundings. Observe the words spoken in your space and how they make you feel. Incorporate a few of these techniques into your daily rhythm, and adopt the one(s) that work for you. When we honor their power, words fuel our ability to live a really good life.

Strawberry-Peach Probiotic Sorbet For A Healthy Gut!

What is the one thing they need to know to get started on a journey to well-being. “Focus on your gut.”

When your gut is telling you something’s not right; it hurts, it’s tired, it’s not providing you with energy you need, it’s gassy, it’s bloated, it’s exhausted, it’s causing your skin to break out, or your hair to fall out…you need to listen to it. Get in touch with those gut feelings!

You can get back in touch with your gut by eating a probiotic-rich diet, making good lifestyle choices, and using food as medicine. You will hear it speak to you, and you will know when you’re on the right path!

To help you on your path to gut health, here’s a game-changing probiotic recipe … a probiotic dessert!

Here is this amazingly great for you dessert:

Strawberry, Mint-Peach Probiotic Sorbet

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups organic strawberries, cleaned, chopped
  • 1 whole organic peach, pit removed, chopped (skin on)
  • ½ cup coconut water kefir
  • 8-10 mint leaves
  • 1 dropper organic liquid stevia (optional)

Directions

1. Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend until mostly smooth (but small chunks of fruit are OK).

2. Pour mixture into shallow glass pan (I used a glass bread loaf dish 8.5”x4.5”x2.5”). Freeze for 2-3 hours. Allow to soften slightly before serving (I let mine sit at room temperature for minimum of 30 minutes before scooping). For even more probiotic powers, top your scoop with a 1/4 cup coconut water kefir.

3. Enjoy!

Tip: Try making as a popsicle too: use the same base and pour into popsicle molds. Slightly warm to release from mold … and voila! Your kids will love these as fruity treats!

A Sweet Potato Smoothie That Tastes Like Ice Cream

Sweet potatoes provide a satisfying sweetness but won’t spike your blood sugar like other types of potatoes.

They’re also packed with nutrients, including vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, iron, magnesium, and calcium. I like to use sweet potatoes to make a healthy alternative to an ice cream shake.

This version is satisfying, delicious, and provides an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory boost.

Better Than Ice Cream Sweet Potato Smoothie

Ingredients

I suggest using organic whenever possible

  • ½ cup sweet potato, cooked and mashed (no skin)
  • ½ large banana or 1 small banana (Try freezing your bananas in small chunks before adding to smoothies. It’s not necessary, but results in an icy cold, thick smoothie.)
  • 1 madjool date, pitted
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • ¼ cup purified water
  • 2-3 ice cubes
  • Dash of cinnamon

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Pour into a glass and dust with additional cinnamon, if desired.

Enjoy!

Foods To Eat Before And After A Workout

 

Eating the right foods at the right time can not only help you to maximize your workouts but can also help you to lose more calories and still have you feeling super energized throughout your exercise session.

Importance of eating right before your exercise workout:

During exercise your body uses stored carbohydrate to derive energy for the workout. In cases of aerobic exercises such as swimming, cycling or jogging, or anaerobic exercise such as weight lifting, pushups or sits ups, the body uses stored carbohydrates known as glycogen. When the body has used up all the carbohydrates, it then uses stored fat to burn as fuel. If you practice exercising regularly on an empty stomach, you lose more muscle mass than you build because in case of low carbohydrates and fats, your body draws its energy source from the proteins in the muscle mass. This results in subdued energy during your workout, slower metabolism which leads to less rapid weight loss and quicker exhaustion.

Foods to eat before workouts:

The best power- up diets includes carbohydrates and a little protein. The key aspect to remember is to eat foods that are a mix of complex and simple carbohydrates and proteins that are low fiber and are easy on the stomach. Examples are:

  • Bananas: These are high in potassium and give an extra dash of energy for your long run or your intense training. The plus point here is that they are super easy to digest.
  • Yogurt with some nuts: Starting off your training with a little yoghurt and a handful of nuts is a smart way to gear up for your heated training ahead. Yogurt is an energy booster and together with some nuts which provide fat and insulin to your body, they both are the perfect mix of a potent snack before workout.
  • Eggs: Eggs are protein rich little white marbles of nature. They help in muscle growth and recovery and provide nutrients needed to build up muscle mass. Eating boiled eggs or cooking up a veggie omelet will instantly energize you for your activity ahead.
  • Whole wheat toast or lightly grilled chicken: Where whole wheat toast has all the essential carbohydrates, lightly grilled chicken has both the components of lean protein and carbohydrates that make it a healthy food to snack on before your workout.
  • Water: Drinking plenty of water at least 1 or two hours before strenuous exercise will contribute greatly towards keeping you well hydrated and agile during your workout.

Importance of eating after exercise:

Eating right after exercise helps to replenish muscles, restore their power, heal muscle injury, keep the metabolism running and help regain lost strength. If you don’t restore the depleted levels of stored carbohydrates in your muscles, you will not be able to give your full potential in your next workout.

Foods to eat after workouts:

Research has shown that eating protein and carbohydrates right after exercise will aid you to recover from your exercise and will also help in muscle growth and repair. These foods are:

  • Chocolate milk: Recent research has pinpointed towards the fact that chocolate milk is just about perfect and the best fluid to replenish muscles as it contains essential sugars, carbohydrates, calcium and protein which is needed right after exercise. Moreover it effectively restores the water content in the body.
  • Fruit smoothie: Your post-workout smoothie will ideally contain bananas, strawberries, apples, mangoes or grapes. Adding a dash of yoghurt and 1 tablespoon of honey will provide you the vital protein and sugars that your body needs to recover from physical activity.
  • Peanut butter sandwich with honey or jam: This is a healthy option for providing complex carbohydrates and fats after exercise and a filling one too. You will easily feel full after eating this sandwich.
  • Salmon: A thoroughly healthy source of protein; baked or grilled salmon makes up for a great post workout snack.

It is best to plan your eating schedule way ahead of your exercise to keep your body well hydrated and perfectly strong before, during and after exercise. Remember the outcome of your workouts is greatly dependent upon your diet so the more you focus on eating the right foods at the right time, the better fitness levels you will be able to achieve.

5 Things Confident Women Do Differently

We all know those women — the ones who stride with an air of grace into a room. They’re not always the thinnest, prettiest, or smartest. They’re not arrogant. They’re the ones who make you want to be around them.

Growing up, all I seemed to do was make people run the other direction. My fears, neuroses, and quirks kept me hating myself. They also threw me into bouts of depression, eating disorders, and codependency.

Why can’t I be thinner? Prettier? Smarter? I continually asked. Then I changed the questions: What creates this aura, this vibe of confidence? What do these women do that I don’t?

Soon enough, I received an answer and I felt my vibe shift. My newfound confidence shifted my world — my career, my relationships, and my health.

After much study, discussion, and practice, I realized these five things are what confident women do differently than women who lack confidence. These have become my must-do’s for confidence:

1. They live their purpose.

Your purpose is to be authentically you. No more, no less. When you applaud your fears, neuroses, and quirks, suddenly these qualities become your assets.

Insecure about your body? So are millions of other women — embrace your goods and teach others to embrace theirs! Shameful of your intelligence? Forget the degrees and do what makes you feel like a genius! When you’re living your truth, you’re unstoppable.

2. They practice their unique ___ (Fill in: calming, uplifting, etc.) ritual.

Some of the greatest thinkers, artists, speakers, lawyers, and performers of our time have a preperformance ritual that gets them revved for show time. While a unique ritual is about doing, it’s also about feeling. A ritual creates the feeling you desire before you actually get to the doing.

For example, if I want to have rockin’ confidence before a date, I’ll strut around my apartment in high heels. If I want to feel calm, I’ll focus on my exhale breaths. We all have rituals that calm our nerves, get us in the game, or prepare our mindset for focused action. Know yourself and what you need to get in the zone.

3. They spend (and love) time alone.

A drop in confidence can come when plans aren’t made or fall through and you’re left with time alone. How empowering is it when this time comes as a gift?!

There’s nothing that revives my confidence more than time alone. Wait, let me clarify: time alone that I occupy with self-love. If I spend my alone time wallowing in misery, I perpetuate my insecurities. When I shower myself with love, in the form of a bubble bath, rest, or yoga, I realign with my core values.

Know what you need to make this precious time with yourself the best time. There is nothing sexier than a woman who ADORES her own company.

4. They take nothing (or very little) personally.

Do you know any confident woman who takes everything personally? Those with true confidence know that any perceived ego blow is more a reflection of the speaker than of them.

When you’re able to hear criticism and not take it personally, your reactions change. You’re able to feel compassion and love for all, regardless of how they treated you. Life isn’t as much of a drama. Confidence emerges naturally with life-love.

5. They ask empowering questions.

We’re constantly making evaluations for what things mean and what we should do. Such neural associations are initiated by questions. Simply, the more empowering questions we ask ourselves, the more confident we will be.

If you ask disempowering questions like, “Why does this always happen to me?” your mind will come up with an answer. In contrast, ask, “What am I happy about now? What could I be happy about if I wanted to?” Or if there is a problem, ask, “What is great about this problem? What can I feel grateful for?” Then you can shift into the confidence required to solve it.

When empowering questions become second nature, you have no choice but to find confidence-inducing answers.

FABULOUS FRIDAY Recipe

Ingredients:

6 regular size Snickers Candy Bars
4 medium apples I used Red Delicious
1 (5.1 oz.) package Vanilla Instant Pudding dry, do not prepare
1/2 cup milk
1 (16 oz.) tub cool whip thawed to room temp
1/2 cup caramel ice cream topping

Instructions:

Whisk vanilla pudding packet, 1/2 cup milk and cool whip together until well combined.
Chop up apples and Snickers into bite size pieces.
Stir chopped apples and Snickers into pudding mixture.
Place in a large bowl and drizzle with caramel ice cream topping.
Chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
